How to create Lunar New Year nail art!

The year of the SNAKE has arrived in 2013.
Start off the new year with these cute DIY Lunar New Year nails :)

(L to R)
  • Sally Hansen Double Duty
  • Nail Art black striper
  • Orly Red Flare
  • glittery coral color
  • Bissu gold polish
  • post-it note (any color) not shown

Paint all of your nails with a clear base coat to protect your natural nail. Then paint all of your nails with 2 coats of a solid red color. Then paint all of your nails with a clear glittery coral to give the red a little sparkle.

To make our crescent moon, cut just the post-it note's sticky side. With the sticky side facing down on the surface, draw a crescent moon with a pen. Then draw a horizontal line across the moon and this is where our fold is going to happen. With the strip folded in half at the horizontal line, cut out the moon so that we're left with a crescent moon stencil.
Place our crescent moon stencil on your index finger so that the sticky side goes onto your nail. Then, with your gold polish, go over the stencil. Remove the stencil and with your toothpick, fill in any sparse areas if needed.
Because we're starting the year of the snake, using your toothpick draw a squiggle of gold onto your nail to make your snake!

Using your toothpick and gold polish, carefully write out 2013.  As you can see,  it was a bit of a challenge for me.

On your middle finger, using your toothpick draw 4 dots down the middle. On the crescent moon, using your black striper, carefully outline the moon.

KANJI for SNAKE!!!
With your gold polish, carefully draw out the kanji for snake.  Then, go over it with a black striper polish .
Finally, go over your nail with a clear top coat to seal in your design!
